Smart TV FAQ
1. How We Chose Our Top 5
More often than not, we hear consumers wish they had chosen a bigger TV, rather than a smaller model. But why? As the level of detail increased with higher-resolution TVs, we gained the ability to put bigger screens in just about any room in the house. We used to sit far enough away from a TV screen so any imperfections in the image wouldn’t be noticeable. That’s not really the case now.
With the extreme lifelike picture of a 4K or 8K TV, even if you sit closer, the precise detail makes it an outstanding experience. Being able to choose a bigger screen, regardless of room size, is the main benefit of 4K and 8K technology. And a 65 inch TV is starting to become the “norm” among households of 4 or more people.
It’s safe to say that newer smart TVs are becoming more robust in terms of design, picture quality, resolution, and performance. We looked at roughly 22 different TVs for this review but the top 5 that we chose for this review are some of the most popular models on the market right now. We get our information directly from the stores that you would purchase a TV from for yourself. Stores such as Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart.
With the sleek design of modern TVs, larger screens take up much less space than you might think. That’s because the size of the bezel (the outside edge that frames your screen) has become much thinner in recent years, so much so that the dimensions of a new 65 inch TV with a thin bezel is roughly the same as an older 55 inch TV without a thin bezel.
Now that we are approaching a new era in smart TV technology, we wanted to choose the best-looking TVs that would look great in any room of the house.

You really can’t go wrong with an OLED TV. We loved this one because of how vivid the color display was. Color matter when it comes to buying a new TV, it really does. You don’t want to end up buying a TV which colors that look like a pastel palette, that’s what’s great about these OLED TVs, the color is extremely rich.
Once you’ve watched your favorites on an LG OLED TV, every other television falls short Whether it’s movies, shows, sports or gaming, Perfect Black and infinite contrast bring out the rich color and clear detail.

The LG B9 was one of the more affordable models we looked at that really stood out to us. This TV looked identical as far as picture quality as the previous LG model at number 4. However, the only downfall to this TV was the sound quality. It didn’t seem as “crisp” as the previous model which is why we placed it at number 5 on our list. If you’re looking for a great TV with good picture quality at a cheaper price range, the LG B9 series will do the job!
LED (light-emitting diode) TVs are the most popular TV type on the market, delivering excellent overall picture quality. Most LED TVs are edge-lit, which means the lights are located on the edges of the TV. Other LED TVs offer a direct-lit design. Here, the lights are placed on the edges of the TV and behind the screen to deliver better light uniformity.
Another form of LED lighting is called “full array”. This technology includes more numerous lights that are placed behind the screen. The benefit here is not only in the brightness of the TV but also in the ability to dim the screen properly during darker scenes. This is called local dimming, and it can make a big difference in picture quality. LED TVs are a great choice for all lighting conditions, especially well-lit rooms.
OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs offer an entirely different technology to light the screen. With these TVs, a thin film of material emits the light that covers the entire screen. Then, each pixel works independently to light up or darken, depending on the image. The benefits are that OLED screens provide an extremely high degree of color accuracy, great contrast, wide viewing angles and a picture that is virtually blur-free.
The recommended distance would be 5-5.5 feet minimum. Any closer than that and your picture will start to look pixelated.
What type of picture resolution do I need?
The three main types of resolution are 1080p, 4k, and 8k. Most people buy 4k TVs, although 8k TVs are now on the market and are gaining lots of popularity. Our recommendation would be a 4k or an 8k if you can comfortably afford it.
What is 8k resolution?
TVs with 8k resolution contain 33 million pixels whereas TVs with 4k resolution contain only 8 million pixels. Since 8k TVs have more pixels, it allows for a much cleaner image with sharp lines and crystal clear picture. You can learn more about 8k resolution here.
Are 8k TVs worth the price?
8k TVs are definitely worth the price if you can afford them. They are built for the cleanest picture quality on the market right now. If you get an 8k TV and you’re watching sporting events, you’ll almost feel as if you’re physically at the event (they’re THAT nice).
Do I need an LED TV or an OLED TV?
This would be based on personal preference. We personally prefer OLED TVs mainly because the picture quality they put out is very clear and the colors are extremely vibrant as well. We recommend OLED if you want very good color clarity.
Can these Smart TVs be mounted to the wall?
Yes, all of these TVs can be mounted on the wall. We recommend this wall-mount because it’s one of the most popular wall mounts on the market.
