We tested and reviewed 10 different models of kids’ electric toothbrushes and listed our top 5 picks.
Do you have a tough time getting your kids to brush their teeth? Or maybe you try and get them to but they throw a fit because they just don’t want to brush them regularly? Either way, in most cases it’s tough to get kids to “want” to brush their teeth. That’s where an electric toothbrush comes in handy! Which is exactly why we tested and reviewed the best electric toothbrushes for kids!
You see, kids don’t want to brush their teeth because it’s no “fun” with a manual toothbrush. Kids want to have fun and a manual toothbrush just seems boring to them. Not only that but they don’t want to take the time to brush their teeth because they just want to play and have fun. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing but getting them into a healthy brushing routine is pretty important.
From what I have seen personally, when kids have an electric toothbrush, they think it’s the coolest thing ever. Why? Because it’s new, it makes noise, and it makes their teeth feel really good afterwards. It’s the same feeling us adults get when we brush our teeth with an electric toothbrush, it’s the same concept. Overall, if you have trouble getting your kids to brush their teeth, you might want to think about getting them a good quality electric toothbrush.
1. What Is An Electric Toothbrush?
An electric toothbrush is a toothbrush that makes rapid vibrating or oscillating motions. These vibrating and oscillating motions move so fast that they create tiny bubbles that zip through the spaces between your teeth. These tiny bubbles that race between your teeth are able to clean in every crevice of your gums and corners of your teeth that a traditional brush would not be able to reach.
In addition, the vibrating or oscillating motion helps to brush away all the plaque in a more aggressive manner than a traditional brush would as well.
Electric toothbrushes are wonderful! Not only do they get your teeth clean, they also make your teeth and your mouth feel like you just got out of the dentist. Your teeth feel squeaky clean and your gums feel extremely healthy! This is why they’re great for kids.
Kids love sugary foods and beverages which creates loads of plaque to build up on their teeth. The oscillating or vibrating motion of these brushes will make sure all that plaque build-up is brushed away. Whereas a traditional brush may not be able to reach some areas.
Overall, your kids’ oral health will be greatly improved the sooner you get them an electric toothbrush.
2. Are Electric Toothbrushes Safe For Kids?
The short answer is yes. Kids all around the world are using electric toothbrushes on a daily basis and have never ran into any major issues as far as safety is concerned. Always watch your child while they brush their teeth with an electric brush though. Some children tend to brush too hard with an electric toothbrush as they would with a traditional brush. This can sometimes cause the child to “over-brush” and cause their gums to bleed or crack.
This is why you should have an electric toothbrush for yourself as well. That way you can brush with them in the beginning and show them how it’s done. Show them that they don’t need to apply much pressure to the brush at all in order to get a deep clean. If you’re interested in an electric brush yourself, we did a review on the best electric toothbrushes for adults as well.
3. Should I Get An Oscillating Brush Or A Vibrating Brush?
This is personal preference. Some people prefer oscillating and others prefer vibrating. As far as big name brands are concerned, Sonicare electric toothbrushes are generally vibrating brushes. On the flip side, Oral-B electric toothbrushes are generally oscillating. It’s really up to the user as to which one they prefer. For kids, you might want to stick with a vibrating brush as they have been proven to provide a deeper clean than an oscillating brush. Especially if plaque build-up is your biggest concern.

5. Tips To Get Kids To Brush Their Teeth!
In many households, getting your kids to brush your teeth is a 2x daily battle. But let me tell you, it’s a battle worth fighting! Especially since you want your kids to have a healthy smile while growing up. One of the biggest issues with kids that don’t brush regularly is tooth decay. Tooth decay can cause so much pain on your child and will require unwanted trips to the dentist, which can be easily preventable.
Here are 5 tips to help get your kids to brush their teeth!
Set A Good Example
When it comes to getting your kids to brush their teeth on a regular basis, you want to set a good example for them. If possible, spend more time brushing your own teeth in front of them. In addition, spend some time explaining the benefits of brushing your teeth regularly as well. Do this every time you brush in front of your child. Like any child, they will more than likely want to follow your lead. This is a good thing because then they will get into the habit of wanting to brush.
Start The Brushing Process Early In Life
The earlier you get them started with brushing on a regular basis, the better it will be. In addition, when you start the process early enough, it’ll save you on unwanted trips to the dentist. When you brush your teeth with your child, also explain to them the different impacts that things like soda and candy can have on their teeth as well. The earlier you get them to hear this information, the quicker they’ll have it in their mind. Whether they remember or not … well, that’s a different story.
Make A Game Out Of Brushing
Here’s a fun thing you can do, play a game with your kids while brushing together. Play the “time game” while watching TV or something like that. For example, when you’re watching TV with your child at night and when a commercial comes on, have them brush a quarter of their teeth in that 30 second commercial break. Continue this for the next 3 commercial breaks after that.
Additionally, you could also play a game where both of you brush at the same time and you can have “races” to see who can finish brushing first. Keep in mind while playing this game, make sure your child is brushing both top and bottom teeth thoroughly.
Choose The Right Kind Of Brush
I kind of talked about this in the beginning of this article but to touch base on it again, you want to make sure they’re using a brush that they like to use. This is why an electric toothbrush can be so valuable in this scenario. Kids will naturally want to brush when they have an electric toothbrush. It makes noises, it vibrates and makes their mouth feel good. What’s not to like there? Having the right kind of brush could make all the difference when it comes to getting your child to brush his/her teeth.
