Top 5 Best Laptops For Seniors | The Best Easy-To-Use Laptops
Our parents are all in their 60’s and above and we wanted to know what the best laptops for seniors were. With that said, this entire review is written with seniors in mind. Not only do we want to actually help seniors decide which laptop they should get, but we also truly love to see seniors enjoy the modern amenities of technology in an easy-to-use machine.
So here’s what we did. We took our parents (4 women, 4 men) who are all over the age of 60 and took them to Best Buy for a few hours. They shopped around to find which laptops they liked the most, based on usability, ease-of-use, and many other factors that we’ll talk about later.
We found that our parents seemed to like a variety of laptops throughout the many choices at Best Buy. Some preferred brands like Apple because they use an iPhone, while the other senior parents preferred brands like Toshiba, HP, and ASUS. In the end, they chose a total of seven different laptops that they liked the most, but we’re only going to list the top 5 of them.
With that said, let’s get started with this review so you can decide which laptop is best for you!
1. What Makes A Good Laptop For Seniors?
When shopping for a laptop for seniors, it’s important to keep their needs into consideration. Some seniors are able to adapt to new technology pretty easily, while others continue to struggle. This is why laptops and other tech devices can be a struggle to purchase for seniors.
One thing to keep in mind when shopping for a laptop is that there are really only two different operating systems you can choose from. You can either get an Apple (Mac) computer or a Windows computer. Both have their own operating system, but some are a lot easier to handle simple tasks than others.
Below are some of the main factors to consider when buying a new laptop for seniors.
Large On-Screen Buttons
Many seniors have a hard time reading modern screens. This is because new laptops generally come with a standard button size that is usually too small. We realize that everyone is different, but we also realized that many seniors have issues with their eyesight as they get older as well. Make sure you’re getting a laptop that is easy to change the size of the buttons on the screen.
In addition to large on-screen buttons, we also took “font-size” into consideration for our top five laptops that we chose as well. These days, some new laptops come with standard fonts that are too small even for the younger generation to read. Laptops with larger fonts are much better for seniors. This is because they won’t have to squint at the screen just to find which buttons to press etc. When shopping for a laptop for seniors, make sure it’s easy to change the font size if they need it to be larger.
As a senior, you want to make sure that you’re getting a laptop that’s easy to navigate. What I mean is, you don’t want to have to spend 10 minutes trying to find the button for the internet or your email. Some laptops are extremely difficult to navigate. When we had our parents looking at laptops, this was one of the factors that they hated about new computers. They hated the fact that it seemed so hard to find simple programs, even programs as small as the calculator.
This is why you want a laptop that makes it easy for you to navigate and find your way around without struggling. We made sure that our top 5 laptops are easy to navigate, so you won’t have any issues in that sector at all.
Low Maintenance Costs
Nobody wants to buy a laptop that needs to be fixed every year. Not only would that suck, but it would also cost a bunch of money as well. When we talk about low maintenance costs, we’re really talking about battery life, energy consumption, memory usage and other technical aspects that may need to be upgraded eventually.
The thing is, you don’t want to have to upgrade anything. This is why the laptops that we chose, all have the perfect amount of everything you need to ensure that nothing bad happens. You won’t run out of memory, won’t have a poor battery life, and you won’t have high electric bills from charging your laptop all the time.
Trusted Brands/Good Quality/Security
Now we’ve talked about a lot of information to help you choose the best laptop and I’m guessing you’re starting to get a little bored. Don’t worry, the next section after this is where you’ll find our list of the top 5 best laptops for seniors. But before you move onto that, we want to discuss quality and security as they are important factors when choosing a laptop as well.
When it comes to trusted brands and good quality, you want to make sure you’re buying a big name brand. Why do I say this? Because in the world of technology, the bigger brands have the highest quality of products. When it comes to laptops, we’ll be looking at brands such as Apple, HP, ASUS, Toshiba, and Dell. All of these brands have been around for many years and sell nothing but good quality products that you can trust.
Lastly, when it comes to security, you want to make sure your laptop is secured with name-brand anti-virus software. We personally recommend McAfee as we have been using their security for many years and have never had an issue.

3. Wrap Up
Buying a new laptop for a senior can be tough at times, especially considering the vast majority of seniors prefer simplicity over anything else. However, any of these five laptops will be great for any senior.
As we stated in the beginning, our parents loved each and every one of these laptops. Seniors shouldn’t have to deal with hard-to-use technology so we hope that we have given enough information to help you make a decision for your senior.
