SiteGround WordPress Hosting Review | Make Your Website Fast!
Like many people and businesses out there, we got tired of the crap that came along with web hosts such as GoDaddy or Bluehost. Specifically, we were frustrated with our website page speeds and poor customer support. Which is why we ultimately ended up migrating to a SiteGround GoGeek WordPress hosting plan.
When we made the switch to SiteGround, we were instantly happy with the results. Our page speed was drastically improved (click through our site if you want) and their support blew our minds. Their support is extremely friendly and you don’t have to sit and wait for an agent like you do with GoDaddy for example.
Currently, we’re running the latest version of PHP 7.3 which helped in the matter of our page load speeds as well. What’s great about SiteGround is how trustworthy their service is. You’re extremely happy with the results that you don’t even have a reason to contact support anymore. Everything runs as smooth as it always should.
In addition, SiteGround has also been voted as the best website hosting provider on many occasions all over Twitter and Facebook. I’ll share pictures later in the articles. It’s crazy how one minute you’re with a hosting company that just wants your money, and the next minute you’re with a company that truly provides superior performance!
I have a lot to say about SiteGround and how great they are. I hope you enjoy this lengthy article because I’m going to walk you through EVERYTHING that they have to offer and why you should choose them.
1. Why We Use SiteGround
When we started our business back in 2016, we used to use GoDaddy for our hosting provider. It wasn’t until November of 2018 that we decided to make the switch to SiteGround. We switched because we key hearing so many good things about SiteGround, it’s features, and it’s phenomenal customer support. Which is very accurate I must say.
When we were with GoDaddy, one of the things that really bothered us was the fact that our site was pretty slow. Our page load speeds were taking longer than 1 second and it wasn’t helping us at all. After we migrated to SiteGround, our site now loads in less than 1 second and it has helped us with our page ranking efforts. That’s the main reason why we wanted to make the switch, but there are more reasons and I will list them in a numbered list below.
List Of Reasons Why We Use And Love SiteGround Now
- SiteGround is recommended by WordPress and by many other smaller publications as well.
- They use the latest version of PHP 7.3 (you can check your current version with this plugin).
- Their speed technology page is honest and lists exactly what they use.
- Our Pingdom Page Speed reports are great! (check your page speed here)
- The owner of the WordPress Speed Up Facebook Group ranks SiteGround as #1.
- SiteGround gets rated as #1 in many different Facebook polls. (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6)
- Their semi-dedicated GoGeek plan is affordable and faster than shared hosting!
- They have 1-click Cloudfare activation in their cPanel. (view cPanel demo)
- SiteGround has support just for WordPress users! (tickets are usually answered in less than 10 min)
- Their SG Optimizer plugin keeps your site’s PHP version up to date at all times!
- They backup your website on a daily basis automatically and update your WordPress whenever it needs updates.
- Security updates.
- Phenomenal eCommerce hosting plans for people who have an online store!
- Weekly security email notifications.
- Our uptime is usually 100% but 99.99% is guaranteed!
- They will migrate your site for FREE and give you a 30-day money back guarantee if you end up not liking their service.
2. Our Page Speed Results (Less Than 1 Second!)
Below is a screenshot of our page-speed results after switching to SiteGround!
Take a look at what other people had to say when they switched to SiteGround!
There are positive statements about SiteGround all over social media! They just continue to provide some of the best web hosting services! And who doesn’t want a fast website, right?
3. About Their Speed Technology
The speed technology that SiteGround uses is one of the biggest reasons as to why people choose them. They use a combination of NGIX servers, SSDs, PHP 7.3, 1-click Cloudfare CDN, and HTTP/2 servers. In addition, their SG Optimizer plugin for WordPress and their built-in supercharger will further improve your page load times as well!
You can’t go wrong when it comes to having a website that loads fast. Not only does it help your search engine rankings, it also looks better to your audience as well. Nobody wants to visit a website and have to wait for the page to load. Upgrade to SiteGround and you’ll see the difference yourself.
4. Latest PHP Version
In today’s modern world, PHP is one of the most popular scripting languages on the web. It’s used by over 75% of all websites as well that use a server-side programming language as well. Most websites you visit (especially blogs) use PHP. In addition, if your site is built on WordPress then you can be certain that your site uses PHP as well.
Here’s the thing though, most people have no idea how to update their PHP because it’s hidden somewhere on their web server in their hosting panel.
However, SiteGround makes it easy for people and they update your PHP version for you. Why is this important? Newer versions of PHP can drastically improve your website’s overall performance, especially it’s overall page speed. With SiteGround you don’t have to ever worry about this because they’ll take care of it all for you! They’ll update your PHP version every time it needs an update so you can be sure your site is always running at peak performance.
Another great aspect of SiteGround is that their SG Optimizer plugin also checks for new versions of PHP, compatibility with themes/plugins, and updates you to the newest version. This is SUPER convenient since most people don’t upgrade as it usually requires manual steps – but their plugin does this for you, as seen in the image below.
5. SG Optimizer Plugin & Supercacher
When it comes to over website performance it’s important to always have a way to manage your cache. Not to worry though, SiteGround has a plugin called SG Optimizer as well as a Supercacher that will do all of this for you.
Both the plugin and the Supercacher work together and cache your website whenever your content gets updated. They also keep your site upgraded to the latest version of PHP as talked about in the previous section. Another reason why SiteGround is the absolute best web hosting platform we have ever used for our site!
If you’re a WordPress user, have you ever used caching plugins such as W3 Total Cache, WP Fastest Cache, or WP Rocket? Supercacher is pretty much the same thing, except it’s built right into your cPanel.
This is actually nice because then you don’t have to waste space on your website by adding a special plugin for caching. Take a look at SiteGround’s cPanel demo to see all the options but overall, Supercacher will make your website much faster!
About SG Optimizer Plugin
This plugin works with the Supercacher. Check out the tutorial on SiteGround if you’d like to see the plugin settings. However, the most valuable aspect of the plugin is the ability to upgrade to the latest version of PHP. You’ll need to use both the plugin and the Supercacher.
6. 1-Click Cloudfare Activation
7. Hosting Plan Comparisons
SiteGround has three main WordPress hosting plans available. They have the StartUp plan, GrowBig plan, and the GoGeek plan. The biggest difference between the three is that the StartUp plan can only host 1 website, but even then, it still come with tons of features. The GrowBig plan offers even more features (faster website), priority support, and 30 daily backups (instead of 1 with StartUp). Lastly, the GoGeek plan come with even more server resources (semi-dedicated hosting) and you can create a staging site to test code and custom plugins before launching. On a side note: the larger plans come with everything in the lower plans as well.Check out the full comparison chart…
High Level Plans = More Server Resources = Faster Website – SiteGround’s GrowBig and GoGeek WordPress hosting plans include more server resources which make your site load much faster (number of servers is the #1 factor in the WordPress optimization guide). The GoGeek WordPress hosting plan is considered semi-dedicated hosting and is about 4x faster than the StartUp plan for $11.95/month. Comparing this to a dedicated server which runs at $229/month or their cloud hosting for $80/month.
If website speed is important to you (which it should be), I would recommend the GrowBig or GoGeek WordPress hosting plans which include the most resources to boost the speed of your website. Both plans also come with priority support, daily backups, automatic WordPress updates, and they let you hosting an unlimited number of websites instead of just one.See the difference in server resources on SiteGround’s features page…
Here are the number of resources per each plan…
Individual Plan Details
The StartUp plan is the cheapest plan offered by SiteGround. This plan is sufficient for just 1 website with a little bit of traffic. It’s better than many other $3.95/month plans offered from other hosting providers, but it lacks server resources to make your website faster. In addition, it also lacks storage and priority support. Uptimes will still be 99.99% though which is nice and you can enjoy and error-free hosting environment. Overall, this plan is perfect for people with a small website that’s local to their community and doesn’t get much traffic. Below are the main features and cost of this plan, below that is a list of features with this plan for WordPress Users.
- $3.95/month ($47.40/year)
- Hosts 1 Website
- 10 GB Space
- 10,000 Monthly Visits
Essential WordPress User Features
- Free WP Install
- Unlimited MySQL DB

- Unmetered Traffic
- Free SSL and HTTPS
- 30 Days Money Back
- Free Email

Here’s where it gets fun. With this plan you can host multiple websites with pretty much double the server resources than with the StartUp plan (which results in fast page load speeds). You also get double the storage space, priority support and staging. It also includes 30 daily backups, a backup restoration tool, and advanced caching for the SG Optimizer plugin. Below are the main features and cost of this plan, below that is a list of features with this plan for WordPress Users.
- $5.95/month ($71.40/year)
- Hosts Unlimited Websites
- 20 GB Space
- 25,000 Monthly Visits
Includes all the essential WordPress features from the StartUp plan above, plus all the Premium WordPress features listed below.
- Free WP Migration (done by SiteGround)

The GoGeek semi-dedicated hosting plan is the best of the best! This plan provides website speeds that are about 4x faster than regular shared hosting plans. The GoGeek plan is perfect for people who want an extremely fast website but don’t want to pay upwards of $80/month for cloud hosting. It also includes eCommerce features such as a 1 year free Willdcard SSL and PCI compliiance for credit card fraud protection. The GoGeek plan includes all the features of the GrowBig plan plus everything below.
- $11.95/month ($143.40/year)
- Hosts Unlimited Websites
- 30 GB Space
- 100,000 Monthly Visits

- Advanced Priority WP Support
- More Server Power (4x faster website speeds)
- PCI Compliant Servers
- Pre-Installed Git For WordPress Developers
8. Cloud Hosting
If you’re interested in cloud hosting, then this section is for you. SiteGround’s cloud hosting plans are typically for larger websites that have enormous amounts of traffic or need the ability to autoscale resources so that your website doesn’t run slow of shut down when you have high amounts of traffic.
At the minimum, SiteGround’s cloud hosting comes with 2 CPU Cores coupled with 4GB of RAM which can make your site even faster than it would on a dedicated hosting plan. The isolated resources can give you quicker speeds, better uptimes, and phenomenal security. Below is an image of all the cloud hosting plans offered by SiteGround.
Rather than hosting your website on one single server, your website gets hosted on an unlimited number of machines. What this means is that your website won’t be taking the chance of being effected by anyone else’s. Also, since cloud hosting simulates a dedicated server, more resources are dedicated towards hosting your website, which makes it load faster.
9. Dedicated Servers
We have never used SIteGround’s dedicated servers and don’t have a use for them but they are available starting at $229/month. Dedicated servers are typically for high traffic websites that require many different resources. Considering their regular hosting plans provide website speed and performance that is unheard of, we’re pretty sure a dedicated server would provide lightning speeds, literally. We just don’t have any experience with them (so we won’t give an opinion on them) to be fair. Maybe if our site reaches the 10,000 visitors per day mark, then we’ll be able to give it a try!
10. 5 Data Centers
When you first sign up for SiteGround, you will have the option to pick which data center you want to host your website out of. There are 5 data canters and they are located in Chicago, London, Amsterdam, Milan, or Singapore. Obviously, you’ll want to choose the data center that is closest to wherever most of your visitors reside. Example: if you live Canada, you’ll want to choose the data center in Chicago since most of your website traffic will likely be from Canada and the United States.
Below is a map of the locations of each data center.
11. Customer Support
When it comes to good quality customer support, you can always count on SiteGround. It’s kind of funny actually because they’re literally one of the only web hosting providers that actually provides goo customer support. These people not only care about their product, but they also care a lot about their customers using their product as well! Which is very hard to come by these days.
Their WordPress experts are very knowledgeable a well. They’ll help solve any problem you might have with your website. What’s great is they never get annoyed with customers asking questions either. It’s just an overall great experience with them.
When it comes to support tickets, you can always expect a response within 10 to 15 minutes every single time. Especially if you use their GrowBig or GoGeek hosting plans. They offer priority support with those plans so that means they will always be helpful whenever you need it. Even with migration, SiteGround will have no problem migrating your website to their servers with no issues at all.
Lastly, I’ll mention that they have been rated many times and have the fastest support in the industry!
When it comes to website security, you’re going to want a web hosting provider that keeps your website safe at all times. SiteGround uses Linux containers and isolation to prevent other websites on your server from messing around with yours. In addition, they also provide ongoing patches and security monitoring on a regular basis as well. Obviously you will want to take secure measures on your own and change your admin password regularly. But otherwise, SiteGround will handle it all for you. In fact, their team consistently makes sure your site isn’t affected by any kind of threats.
Below is an image that shows how SiteGround protects your website. (it’s also listed on the features page as well)
In addition, they send weekly emails letting you know that your website is secure. (see image below)
13. 99.99% Uptime
Uptime is extremely important because you want to be able to trust that your hosting provider is going to have your servers up and running at all times. This was one of the other biggest reasons we switched to SiteGround, their uptime rate is rated higher than any other web hosting provider and you can always count on them to never go down. SiteGround’s uptime technology is officially 99.99%. They do whatever it takes at all times to prevent the possibility of any downtimes. See the image below.
14. Automatic WordPress Updates
When you sign up with SiteGround as your hosting solution for WordPress, you will have ability to have your WordPress site automatically updated for you. (Read about the auto-update tool here)
Normally you would have to login to your dashboard and update yourself. Except with SiteGround, you won’t have to worry about that anymore. In addition, SiteGround will automatically update your plugins for you whenever a new version is released for those plugins.
See the image below, you will have a “WP Auto Update” button right in your dashboard. You will just click that button and you will be able to configure your settings to have your website updated automatically!
15. eCommerce Features
SiteGround isn’t just a standalone hosting solution, it also comes with some pretty great eCommerce features as well. If you’re building an online store, you’re going to want some of the features below.
Free Let’s Encrypt SSL – every hosting plan comes equipped with a free Let’s Encrypt SSL that you can find in your cPanel when you sign up. (Learn more about the Let’s Encrypt SSL here)
Wildcard SSL – Both the GrowBig and GoGeek plans come with a 1 year wildcard SSL. The wildcard SSL secures your website and it’s subdomains. You also get an official seal to display on your site to show your visitors that your site is safe. The wildcard SSL will cost $89/year after the first free year. You can also check out SiteGround’s SSL plans to learn more about them as well.
PCI Compliance – SiteGround’s GoGeek plan includes PCI compliance (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) which prevents credit card fraud by unifying payments using 12 requirements.
16. cPanel Demo
Have you ever seen what cPanel looks like? Many other hosting providers use cPanel as well but if you aren’t familiar with it, take a look at the cPanel demo here. The demo will help you explore the different options you will have when you purchase a Siteground plan. You will find many features I’ve gone over including Cloudflare CDN, autoupdates, autoinstallers, staging, backups, email, WordPress tools like their SuperCacher plugin, and plenty of other features. SiteGround’s cPanel layout is one of the main reasons we loved their service and why we call it the best WordPress hosting service on the planet! Very easy to navigate!
17. Free Migration
One of the best features of SiteGround is their free migration or website transfer tool. This is especially handy for people who aren’t very tech savvy. When you sign up for SiteGround, all you have to do is open a support ticket and request a free website transfer. It’s that easy!
We used it when we switched from GoDaddy and the migration on took a few hours from start to finish. Their technicians know what they’re doing and from what we’ve heard, they never usually run into any issues whatsoever.
If you are a tech savvy person and your website is built on WordPress, this process shouldn’t be hard at all. In the WordPress section of your cPanel, you will find a simple button that’s labeled “WordPress Migrator”. All you have to do is click it and follow the on-screen instructions and your website will be transferred over in no time!
18. Low Cancellation Rates
Since we are a SiteGround affiliate, we’re able to see how many people cancel their plan after signing up due to not being happy. The rate we have seen is about 7-10% which is very low.
Just to give you an idea, WP Engine’s cancellation rate is right around 20%, HostGator is around 60%, and GoDaddy is around 34%. So as you can see, the majority of people end up being happy when they sign up for a SiteGround hosting plan.
19. Recommended By WordPress
SiteGround is recommended by WordPress as well. Check out the image below. Or click here to see it for yourself!
20. What’s Wrong With Other Hosting Companies
So now you’re going to learn a little more about what is wrong with the other hosting companies. Did you know that hosting providers such as HostGator, Bluehost, and HostMonster are all owned by the same large company? They’re all owned by the same crappy firm called EIG.
Want to see an entire list of “hosting companies” that this EIG firm owns? Take a look, it’s pretty long. This EIG company is infamous for buying out companies, firing employees and they also ruin companies by downgrading their hardware just to save on costs. Yeah it’s great for EIG, but it’s not so great for you as the customer. Don’t worry though, SiteGround is not owned by these guys.
Below is an image of all the hosting companies that EIG owns.
21. How To Tell If Your Current Hosting Is Slow
Nobody likes a slow website. In fact, Google recommends that your site has a response time of less than 320ms. Server Response Time is the measurements you want to be looking at to see if your hosting environment is slow. We recommend that you run your website through Google Page Speed Insights to see if you get a response saying “reduce server response time”. If you get that message after running your site through Google’s Page Speed Insights, then it’s very likely that your current hosting provider is pretty slow.
Ideally, if your site is 500ms or less then you will be fine. Google’s recommendation of 320ms is just their recommendation but you will find other reputable sources that say anything less than 500ms is just fine.
However, if your pages are taking 500ms or more, then you really should start thinking about switching to SiteGround. Like we said in the very beginning, our site used to load at 1.67 seconds when we were with GoDaddy. Now our site loads at roughly 340ms after switching to SiteGround.
22. Key Benefits Of SiteGround WordPress Hosting
One of the things that we have noticed with a lot of other WordPress website/blog owners is that they don’t really seem to care much about the technical aspects of their website. They seem to only care about content creation, SEO, and many other minuscule aspects. If you’re one of those individuals, listen carefully because you’re really missing out on a lot of good value that could your website/blog could really benefit from. Below Are some of the greatest benefits of SiteGround WordPress Hosting.
Page speed is something that many website/blog owners tend to look over. The worst part is that they don’t even realize that page speed can greatly increase or decrease their overall page ranking and SEO efforts. Google doesn’t want to rank slow websites. If your website is taking longer than 3 seconds to load, you’re not going to be ranking very high for any keyword.
When you have SiteGround by your side, your website/bog will be in the hands of a digital magician. We’re talking huge increases in overall page load speed. SiteGround has many different features that you can benefit from to make your website load faster. We talked about most of these features in various sections throughout this review.
You can’t go wrong with phenomenal customer support. When we say that this company cares about their customers, we truly mean it! Most companies these days make it sound like you’re a burden to them when you reach out for support. Not these guys though! The SiteGround support team wants to see you have a good experience while using their service. This is one of the bigger reasons why we love them so much!
When you have an issue with anything having to do with your service, all it takes is one support ticket and you can expect a reply in no longer than 10 minutes from our experience. There have been times where our tickets have gotten replies in a matter of just a few minutes! When they reach out to you, they aren’t boring and bland about it either. These support techs really want to help you out and they’ll go above in beyond just to show it. You will notice this when you start speaking with them if you ever have an issue.
Uptime & Security
Security is always a big deal when it comes to any website. SiteGround has many people employed just to take care of their security portion of their business. You can be 100% sure that your site will always be secured on their servers. This also goes hand in hand with uptime as well. When you’re with SiteGround, your site will literally never go down for any reason at all. SiteGround has never had any server related issues where it has caused their servers to go down. You can be positively sure that you’re going to have 99.99% uptime with them.
23. Wrap Up
Before we go ahead and wrap up this review, take a look at the image below. All of these people have had good words to say about SiteGround on Twitter. As you can see, many people are more than satisfied with SiteGround’s WordPress hosting services and support!
