Top 5 Best Smart TVs For Your Home | Which Smart TVs Are The Best?
Most of us really enjoy sitting in front of the TV after a long day at work and watch our favorite TV shows on Netflix or Hulu. But in order to do this, we need a great Smart TV with phenomenal picture quality, which is why we decided to review the top 5 best smart TVs on the market.
We spent two full days in Best Buy gathering info and talking with experts who know all about the latest models of Smart TVs. There were a ton of TVs to look at, but only a select few seemed to be superior above the rest and those five are the ones we are going to share with you today!
Every person has a different use for a smart TV. Some people prefer to watch basic cable and the occasional sports game. While others prefer to have movie nights with the family. And some like to use their smart TV for apps and that’s it! When we say apps we’re talking about Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. Either way, some TVs are better for different uses than others considering each TV has its own features and standard picture quality. The TV’s we’re showing you today are “universal” meaning all five of them are good for any use.
1. Smart TV Features
Have you ever walked into Best Buy before and felt overwhelmed by all the different TV’s they actually have available? All those TV’s have a specific set of features and although they all do the same thing, some are most robust than others.
Obviously, we don’t have time to go through and list all the different features that each brand of TV offers. So instead, we’re just going to list the different features that most modern smart TV’s have.
Smart TV Apps
Modern Smart TV’s have so many apps these days it’s not even funny. They’re basically giant smartphones in a sense. These apps aren’t based on the Google Play Store or the Apple store either.
The apps that come with smart TV’s usually come standard with the manufacturer’s own application interface. However, you will find all the major apps that most smart TV brands offer. Some of these include Netflix, Hulu, YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video, HBO, Cinemax, PlayStation Video, Vudu, Plex, and many hundreds more.
When it comes to the apps that you can download on these smart TV’s, the list just goes on and on.
Ports And Plugins
Do you have a lot of devices that plug into your TV? If so, you will want to make sure the TV you’re buying has enough of them to support all of your devices.
Any smart TV’s above 32″ will generally have at least 3 USB ports and 4 HMDI ports at the very minimum. We saw some 65″ TVs with double these numbers. They had 6 USB ports and 8 HDMI ports. It really all depends on what you need really.
Make sure to count how many you actually need before actually purchasing the TV.
2. Which Smart TV Brands Are Popular?
When it comes to popularity, we asked the sales guys at Best Buy about which TV brands get bought the most. According to them, Samsung TVs seem to be their number 1 seller in all sizes. After Samsung, they mentioned that LG’s usually sell the best. After LG would be VIZIO.
However, we also wanted to know which brands get bought the most by people who are on a budget as well. Apparently, most people who come into Best Buy that are on a budget usually go with a TCL considering they have the best picture quality for the price. We had to agree on this as well after we saw the TCL’s for ourselves. We included 2 TCL TV’s in our top 5 list below as well.
3. Smart TV Buying Tips
When buying a new smart TV for your home, it’s essential that you buy something that you’ll be happy with for a few years, until it’s time to get a new one. You want to take a few things into consideration and I will explain them below.
Get A Soundbar
You’re going to want to get a soundbar. The reason why is because almost every smart TV that comes from the manufacturer has very poor sound. You can get the most expensive, best talked about smart TV and the sound quality will be horrible. They always have been horrible.
Lucky for you, we have reviewed the best soundbars under $200 already. Here’s the article – Best Soundbars Under $200.
You Don’t Need 8K Resolution
Never heard of 8K? It exists! But guess what, you really don’t need it. You’ll end up paying thousands of dollars for a TV that can display the same quality image as a 4K TV. I’ve seen it in the stores and yes the resolution is better, but it’s just not worth it to buy into an 8K TV at this point.
OLED TV’s Are Worth It
OLED TVs go one better than full-array LED-LCD’s with a few dozen lighting zones. In place of a backlight, OLEDs use a layer of organic LED’s, controlled at the pixel level, to achieve absolute black and stunning levels of contrast.
- Pros of OLED: Best TV picture, bar none; Colors truly pop, deeper blacks and better contrast and shadow detail than LCD TVs achieve; Retains image quality when viewed from the side.
- Cons of OLED: Stratospheric prices; lower peak brightness than some LCD sets, uncertainty about how screens will fare over time, including whether they will retain “ghost” images (also known as burn-in) from displaying a static picture for too long.
Look For The Most Connection Ports (i.e. HDMI Ports)
You might not think about this while you’re in the store but you really should. I’ve actually made this mistake before. I bought a smart TV back in 2009 that only had 4 HDMI ports. That was a huge mistake! I completely forgot to check how many ports the TV had.
When you have many other electronics that plug into your TV, you want to make sure you’re getting something with enough ports. Many people have gaming systems, soundbars, cable TV boxes, Blu-ray players, and many other gadgets as well. Make sure the TV you’re looking at has at least 5-10 ports. You never know when you’ll need them.
Take A Look At HDR TV’s
HDR is a new feature of 4K Ultra HD sets and it stands for high dynamic range, a reference to its ability to deliver more colors, more contrast levels and increased brightness. HDR is essentially an upgrade of the 4K, or Ultra HD, format (it is not applicable to 1080p HD sets). For this new feature, TV makers are christening new monikers for the sets to distinguish them from standard 4K Ultra HD TVs.
Figure Out If You Want “4K” or “HD”
Resolution describes the number of pixels that make up the picture on a display, described in terms of horizontal rows and vertical columns. More pixels translate into a sharper picture and finer details, so higher resolution is (almost always) better.
Regular “HD” is your standard 1920×1080 resolution.
Ultra HD resolution, also called 4K, is increasingly becoming the standard, and it’s a better choice if you want to future-proof your investment. Higher-resolution 8K TVs are coming to market, but it’s not worth buying yet.
Decide What Screen Size You Want
Whether you’re looking for a basic or high-performance TV, the biggest factor in your decision will probably be screen size. Consider how many people in your family typically watch at once and where you’re going to put your new set. Then pick the largest screen size that will fit comfortably into that space — and your budget. The sweet spot today, considering price, performance and the typical living room, is between 55 and 65 inches.

5. Wrap Up
Overall if you’re looking for the absolute best picture quality that’s currently on the market, we’d suggest going with our #1 TV – the Samsung 65″ QLED. This TV is phenomenal, when we saw it in the store our jaws dropped, the picture quality was that good. If you’re not a fan of Samsung TV’s, go with our LG OLED at #2, this TV was phenomenal as well and you won’t be disappointed whatsoever.
However, if you’re on a budget and can’t afford to spend the big bucks on the Samsung or LG, go with one of the TCL’s that we mentioned. As mentioned earlier in this review, the TCL’s are the best smart TVs for their price. (Unless you find a special deal somewhere else.)
That does it for this review though. We had a lot of fun with this one. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below. Feel free to send us a message on our contact page as well if you would like. You can find our contact page here.
